On Monday, the federal government released the official schedule for public and optional holidays for 2025, covering national events, Muslim festivals, and holidays for minorities.
As 2024 comes to a close, the Cabinet Division issued a notification detailing the holidays to be observed in the coming year.
For Muslim festivals, holiday dates will be based on anticipated moon sightings, and a separate notification will be issued accordingly.
The notification also emphasized that no government employee can take an optional holiday without prior approval from the head of their organization. Additionally, employees are limited to one optional holiday for Muslims and three for non-Muslims per year.
The government stressed that granting optional holidays should not disrupt the flow of work, and any approved holidays should ensure that adequate staff remains available to maintain operations. Optional holidays, which are religiously significant, may be allowed at the discretion of the head of the organization, but work should not be negatively impacted.
