Hwang Dong-hyuk, the creator of Squid Game, recently confirmed that the third season will be the series’ final chapter but also revealed that Netflix has exciting plans for the franchise beyond that.
More After Season 3?
In an interview with The Wrap, Hwang, who serves as the director, writer, and executive producer of the show, hinted at the possibility of a spin-off in the future, assuring fans that Netflix isn’t planning to abandon the Squid Game universe. “I know Netflix has a plan,” Hwang said, emphasizing that the story is far from over. “Season 3 will not be the end of the ‘Squid Game’ universe.”
In a previous conversation with AP News, Hwang shared that the third season will feature a significant time jump, taking place 10 to 20 years in the future. He described the upcoming season as being darker and more somber, yet still infused with the series’ signature humor. He also revealed that season three was developed alongside season two, and it is currently in post-production, with a planned release in 2025.
